Two bills have been introduced in the House of Representatives regarding mental health:

HR 3717, the Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act, and HR 4574, the Strengthening Mental Health in Our Communities Act. On September 4th during the 2014 NAMI Convention, myself and Lauren Simonds, Executive Director of NAMI Washington, along with some of our members, participated in National Day of Action to bring attention to the need for comprehensive mental health legislation. We met with staffers from Senator Cantwell and Senator Murray’s offices, in addition to HR 3717 co-sponsor Congressman McDermott’s staff.

This is a critical time for NAMI members to voice their support for a comprehensive mental health bill, and share stories with their legislators about their experience in our existing mental health system.

Read more on the proposed bills on the NAMI Blog in this post from the national Executive Director, Mary Giliberti.
